Dadaumba, is an obvious play of words between the artist’s surname, the DADA artistic movement that celebrates the centenary this year, and theme of the sisters Kessler Dadaumpa! which characterized the sixties, decade of the birth of the artist. The leitmotiv of the works on display is the theme of football, investigated in all its nuances: in particular, the artist’s attention is focused on the architectural structure of the playing field. In his works the connection between the structure of the football field and the church is fundamental: focusing on the development of just one half of the field, for Umbaca there is a very close relationship between the penalty area in the game of football and the altar of Renaissance churches. Both in fact possess an aura of sacredness, one for the contact that is created with God, the other place of strong tension that the goalkeeper would never want to see violated and exceeded. The connection between football and the sacred is also very strong in his peice Pietra.

Dadaumba, è un evidente gioco di parole tra il cognome dell’artista, il movimento artistico DADA che quest’anno festeggia il centenario, e la sigla delle sorelle Kessler Dadaumpa! che ha caratterizzato gli anni Sessanta, decennio di nascita dell’artista. Filo conduttore delle opere in mostra è il tema del calcio, indagato in tutte le sue sfumature: in particolar modo l’attenzione dell’artista è focalizzata sulla struttura architettonica del campo da gioco. Nelle sue opere è fondamentale la connessione tra la struttura del campo da calcio e la chiesa: concentrandosi sempre sullo sviluppo di una sola metà del campo, per Umbaca esiste un rapporto molto stretto tra l’area della porta nel gioco del calcio e l’altare delle chiese rinascimentali. Entrambe infatti possiedono un’aura di sacralità, l’una per il contatto che si crea con Dio, l’altra luogo di forte tensione che il portiere non vorrebbe mai vedere violato e oltrepassato. La connessione tra calcio e sacralità è molto forte anche nell’opera Pietra.
