Nell’ambito del progetto Re_Place. “La città si illumina”.

For this project, designed for the historic city of L’Aquila, still devoid of its inhabitants after the earthquake of 2009, the artist was inspired by fireflies. What better symbol of this fascinating and curious beetle for the hope of meeting again? A group of people holding a small green laser that turns on and off, like fireflies, meet and illuminate the darkness. The intermittent flashing of the lasers works like a warning sign, which highlights the obstacles created by the shored up buildings and the building sites of the reconstruction. People, like small swarms, cross the semi-dark streets of the historic center, creating a shared path that leads them to the garden of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio. The façade of the Basilica, a cathedral of high symbolic and spiritual value for the community, conceived according to the light system of the summer solstice, acts as a screen to the constellations traced with the use of green laser light points. Observing the stars, the citizens – all together – draw the celestial vault, restablishing a relationship between earth, sky and city, living a time of shared sociality and feeling part of the same community.
