On the occasion of its fortieth anniversary, the historic Basaglia law was celebrated in various forms. And it is in this context in December 2018 that The human condition, Beyond the total institution, was born. An exhibition project of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, with the Regional Superintendence of Palermo, hosted in the fifteenth-century Palazzo Ajutamicristo, seat of the Superintendency itself: an institution responsible for the custody and safeguarding of works of art and places full of history, and which on this occasion it is to the stories of women and men on the margins that he has devoted attention; dramatic events, whose echo resonates indelibly within monumental former mental asylum structures, usually period and prestigious architecture, subject to cultural constraints …

In occasione del suo quarantennale la storica legge Basaglia, è stata celebrata in varie forme. Ed è in questo contesto che nel dicembre 2018 nasce La Condizione umana. Oltre l’istituzione totale, progetto espositivo dell’Assessorato dei Beni culturali e dell’Identità siciliana, con la Soprintendenza regionale di Palermo, ospitando nel quattrocentesco Palazzo Ajutamicristo, sede della Soprintendenza stessa: un’istituzione preposta alla custodia e alla salvaguardia di opere d’arte e di luoghi carichi di storia, e che in questa occasione è alle storie di donne e uomini ai margini che ha dedicato attenzione; vicende drammatiche, la cui eco risuona indelebile all’interno di monumentali ex strutture manicomiali, solitamente architetture d’epoca e di pregio, sottoposte a vincolo culturale…
